Abstract

This book is the culmination of 100 years of the study of vocational behavior and is the next element in the Society for Vocational Society (SVP) book series on the foundations of vocational behavior. The first section is "Overview and Historical Foundations", the second section is "Theoretical Approaches to Values and Careers", the third section is "Cutting Edge Approaches in Researching Values", the fourth section is "Values and Culture", and the final section is "Values in the Practice of Career Counseling". This book is a detailed study of the role that values play in individuals' careers. It provides practitioners, faculty, and researchers in vocational psychology and career counseling with a foundation tool to guide their work. It uniquely focuses on the critical role that values play in a person's career and addresses these questions from a broad array of perspectives, including cultural and international perspectives, to illuminate the place of values within vocational psychology and career development.
