Abstract

MU-ADEPTtrains healthcare providers in Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) to address alcohol misuse and abuse. Using motivational interviewing, the goal is to increase patients’ intrinsicmotivation toward healthy behavior change.

MOST report NOT knowing whata “standard drink” is.
Patient understanding of risky drinking –standard drink sizes, along with daily & weekly drink limits –is key. We wondered what patients know about their drinking patterns and how risky they may be, and how providers may enhance patient knowledge, key in efforts toward motivation for lasting change.
