Abstract

We have studied Langmuir monolayers of stearylamine on an acidified subphase using surface pressure isotherm measurements and fluorescence microscopy observations. Compression of the monolayer to low area per molecule in the coexistence region between the liquid-expanded and liquid-condensed phases followed by expansion results in a novel transition from a lamellar to a foam-like morphology for the liquid-condensed phase.
