Immigration Challenges in Secondary Cities

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

An aspect of the immigration experience that receives limited consideration is impact in urban areas that have a steady stream of immigrants and refugees, but in limited numbers. This paper discusses such a case, St. Louis, Missouri. Recognized as a former gateway, St. Louis today has a small but extremely diverse population of foreign-born residents. The experinece of immigrant and refugee groups in the absence of a substantial population from the same ethnicity/nationality and the structure of local services that exist to assist them are the subjects of this paper.
