Chirality in Monolayers

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

One intriguing aspect of the study of monolayers involves unraveling the effects of stereochemistry. Studies of chiral discrimination in monolayers have most often involved comparing the behavior of films of pure enantiomers with those of racemic mixtures. Studies of chiral discrimination in monolayers have proliferated recently, driven by the interest in supramolecular chemistry and self-assembly. In this entry, studies of chiral discrimination in monolayers at the water–air interface (Langmuir monolayers), in Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) films, and in self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are reviewed.
