Abstract

This chapter traces the evolution of career intervention from its roots in that early 20th-century vocational guidance movement to contemporary times, both at the individual and systemic levels. It includes a discussion of the historical and political context of the period; the changing nature of career, work, and workers; links between work and mental health; technological advances; and increased need for career intervention science and practice in the digital–global era.
