Timothy Makubuya, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of education in the College of Education. He holds a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (physics, chemistry, mathematics, and economics). He received a B.A in environmental management from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. He holds a B.S in sports medicine and an M.S in sports management from Missouri Baptist University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri- St. Louis.
Dr. Makubuya teaches both at the undergraduate and the graduate level. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Dr. Makubuya has authored journal articles and presented at regional, national, and international conferences on the topics of physical activity, dietary behaviors, sleep, and obesity. In 2013, he presented at the North American Refugee Health Conference in Toronto, Canada on the topic of obesity among immigrant populations in North America. He also presented on People of Color in the Outdoors: Missed Opportunities for Physical Activity at the ACSM’s 2018 Annual Meeting, World Congress on Exercise is Medicine®, and World Congress on the Basic Science of Muscle Hypertrophy and Atrophy.
Dr. Makubuya's research interests are in minority health, youth risk behaviors, coaching education, physical activity, nutrition supplementation, injury prevention, and athletic and academic performance.
