About
Mary Edwin is an assistant professor in the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs. She holds a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from the Pennsylvania State University; an M.S. in counseling from Johns Hopkins University; and a B.S. in biology from the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Edwin is a nationally certified counselor and a certified school counselor. Prior to becoming a faculty member, Dr. Edwin served as a career counselor and as an elementary and middle school counselor. Her current research agenda is in two areas: career development in schools and STEM career development. Her research on career development in schools consists of early career development interventions and the development of school-based career interventions. Her research on STEM career development explores the influence of career development interventions in promoting STEM career aspirations and retention for female and underrepresented minority students. Dr. Edwin conducts research using High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09) large database sponsored by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). At UMSL, Dr. Edwin teaches courses in the counseling program including School Counseling Practicum, Ethics and Professional Issues in Counseling, Career Information and Development, and Helping Relationship Skills.
