Martha Caeiro has an M.A. in Spanish from Washington University in Saint Louis. Caeiro studied at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina, where she earned two undergraduate degrees, one in teaching and one in translation. In 1990, she moved to St. Louis to pursue her graduate studies in the Department of Romance Languages of Washington University where she earned a Master’s degree in Spanish.
Caeiro has taught college-level Spanish language courses since she arrived in St. Louis, first as a teaching assistant at Washington University and then as a full-time teaching professor at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis, where she has been employed since 1995. She teaches a variety of courses including Beginning Spanish; Intermediate Language and Culture; Reading, Composition, Advanced Grammar, Translation, Service-Learning; and internship courses. She has experience teaching in different delivery formats: face-to-face, blended, and online. She is particularly interested in teaching courses where students explore professional applications of their linguistic and cultural competencies and have opportunities for community engagement. Caeiro is the coordinator of the Spanish program. She advises Spanish majors and minors as well as students who wish to study abroad. Additionally, she serves as a liaison for the UMSL Advanced Credit Program, working in partnership with area teachers to ensure quality college-level courses are offered in high schools.
