About

Joseph A. O’Sullivan is the Dean of the University of Missouri-St. Louis/Washington University Joint Undergraduate Engineering Program, having been appointed in 2008.  He sits on the Provost Council of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Dean O'Sullivan joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, in 1986, where he is currently the Samuel C. Sachs Professor of Electrical Engineering. He holds joint appointments with the Department of Radiology and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dean O'Sullivan was the Chair of the Faculty Senate Council and the Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees with Washington University in St. Louis from 2002 to 2004. Dean O'Sullivan maintains an active funded research program at Washington University and is widely published in his research areas.  
 
Prof. O’Sullivan was the Publications Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory from 1992 to 1995, an Associate Editor of Detection and Estimation, and a Guest Associate Editor of the Special Issue on Information Theoretic Imaging in 2000. He was co-chair of the IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory in 2006. He was the Chair of the Saint Louis Section of the IEEE in 1994. Dean O'Sullivan has been active in many conferences in the IEEE and SPIE.  He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and AAAS. He is a fellow of the IEEE and received the IEEE Third Millennium Medal.
