Teleretina in the Primary Care Setting

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

This talk will expose audience members to the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy and the hardware and software telehealth solutions seeking to democratize eye care. Not immune to validation studies, teleretina cameras and workflows deployed may or may not show appropriate accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, or agreement with in-person diabetic eye examinations. This talk will include capabilities of retinal camera hardware, benefits/limits of current software solutions, and other key considerations in developing teleretina services in primary care settings.

By the end of this session, participants should be able to:

1. Appreciate concerns specific to the diabetic retinopathy (DR) pandemic.
2. Understand the optometric workforce capable of helping reduce vision loss secondary to DR.
3. Describe the benefits/limitations of hardware and software solutions in teleretina for DR screening.
4. Appreciate the multi-player roles in developing a teleretina service in the primary care setting.
